February 2007  In continued meetings, medical leaders in Egypt participated in advanced discussions on solutions to concerns of organ donorship and supplies in Egypt

Dr. Meteini (Liver surgeon, Cairo University) and Dr. Ibrahim Badran (Chair and Founder of Ibrahim Badran Hospital in Cairo and former Minister of Health)

COFS, in collaboration with partner groups the Association for Health and Environmental Development (AHED) and the People's Health Movement (PHM), conducted the first of a series of meetings with key actors in Cairo in order to discuss creating alternatives for organ supply sources in Egypt that do not rely on commercial living donors.  Participants in this first meeting primarily consisted of medical professionals including key urologists and nephrologists involvedin organ transplants in Egypt.  Referring to WHO'sguidelines as well as the recent regional consensus statement of the Kuwait Document, the group formulated steps to advance alternative options for organ supply sources within the Egyptian legal and medical systems.
